Wednesday Update - July 20, 2022

Happy Wednesday everyone!

It’s definitely time for an update on our little Autumn, as the last time we spoke, we were given the news of the clear and cancer-free bone marrow. It’s been a few weeks since then, and so much has happened, it’s almost impossible to keep up.

After her results from the bone marrow, Autumn had a CT scan as well as an MIBG scan (which is a radioactive substance that lights up neuroblastoma cancer cells in her body). Unfortunately, the amount of cancer cells in her body had not dropped to the levels that doctors were comfortable with, and because of that, her high-dose chemotherapy was delayed and her treatment plan altered slightly to get as much cancer cells removed from her body. We were disappointed with the news, but we know it’s not bad news; just a slight delay.

Autumn is back at SickKids since Monday where she began her first round of chemo+immunotherapy, where an immune drug attacks neuroblastoma cancer cells directly. Her oncologists and doctors are hopeful that after a few rounds, the amount of cancer cells should have decreased enough to start high-dose chemotherapy in a few months.

Autumn has been enjoying some quality time with family and friends over the past few weeks, getting a pedicure, eating ice cream, and spending some wonderful quality time with her sister. We are slowly getting ready to celebrate Autumn’s 5th birthday (Autumn turns 5 on September 19th).

Her spirits and energy, her sassiness and strength are still there at 100%, as she continues to fight. She is definitely a fighter, and we are SOOO proud of her, every single day.
