I finally got to donate again! Canadian Blood Services has a standard 3-month waiting period between donations for women but they are in such a shortage that they will make some exceptions. They phoned me at the 9 week mark once and told me I could go in and I jumped at the chance!
Autumn has had so many transfusions and we have been lucky to have blood readily available in her time of need but many others aren’t so lucky and can be waiting all day. When Autumn needs a transfusion, the signs are; very pale skin, blue under the eyes, constantly sleeping, easy bruising, and no appetite. It’s heart-breaking seeing her so lethargic and unlike herself. Once she has a quick top-up of blood cells- she is back in action immediately and it’s amazing to see.
Keep donating for Autumn, and all the other little (and big) ones out there.
Shoutout to Laura at the Oshawa location for making me feel like a low key celebrity when I walked in and supporting our journey! The staff there were amazing and remembered all who donated last month in Autumn’s name. So touching!
